Rape charges against CRPF men false: J

Srinagar, Apr 1 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir Police today claimed to have arrested a person who had charged the CRPF personnel with the alleged rape attempt on a girl in Anantnag district.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Kulgam, S P Pani said after receiving information about the alleged rape attempt on a girl by the CRPF personnel at Mir Bazar in Qazigund area of Anantnag district yesterday, a police team immediately rushed to the spot.

After preliminary investigations, it was found that the arrested person, Farooq Ahmed Wagay, had raised a false alarm regarding the rape attempt by the CRPF personnel, the SP said.

While ascertaining the facts about the incident from the girl in question, she alleged that in fact Wagay, a resident of Manzgam, had been teasing her for a long time, he added.

Accordingly, the SP said few youth from the area were rounded up and a test identification parade (TIP) conducted before an executive magistrate. In the TIP, the girl identified the accused.

On her complaint, police registered a case against Wagay.

The SP clarified that no CRPF personnel was involved in any such incident and the allegations levelled against them were baseless.
