On Prophet's birthday reaffirm commitment to His ideals: Sahay
Mumbai, Apr 1 (UNI) Celebration of Id-e-Milad (Prophet Mohammad's birthday) is an opportunity to remember him with gratitude and reaffirm one's commitment to his ideals, Union Minister of State for Horticulture Subodhkant Sahay said today.
Addressing a function organised by All India Khilafat Committee on the occasion of Id-e-Milad here, Mr Sahay said the Prophet was one of the greatest social reformers and humanist.
''Celebration of the Prophet Mohammad's birthday is an opportunity to remember him with gratitude and reaffirm our commitments to the ideals that were dear to his heart,'' he said.
Islam believes in peace and harmony, the Minister said and also recalled the sacrifices made by the Muslim freedom fighters.
Maharashtra Minister of State for Food and Civil Supplies Baba Siddiqui said Muslims should follow the teachings of the Prophet Mohammad, which are based on humanity and integration.
On the occasion, messages by President, Prime Minister and Governor were also read out.
A procession, led by spiritual scholar of the Ajmer Sharief shrine Maulana Gulam Mustafa Kibriya, was also taken out from Khilafat House at Byculla in South Central Mumbai to Crawford Market.
