Chennai, Apr 1 (UNI) Minister of State for Railways R Velu today ruled out any talks between Tamil Nadu and Kerala governments on the formation of Salem Railway Division (SRD).

Railway Minister Lalu Prasad's suggestion for a discussion between the two governments was only to work out the modalities for forming the new division, he told reporters here.

Allaying Kerala's apprehension that bifurcation of Palakkad Railway Division (PRD) for creating a new division headquartered at Salem in Tamil Nadu would affect its interests, he said the decision to carve out the SRD was taken last year itself and work had already begun in this regard.

Opposing the bifurcation of PRD, the Kerala government had already petitioned Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Mr Prasad to drop the move.

It had said that the proposal was not acceptable as Palakkad division would have to give away a major chunk of its areas to the new division.
