Near total bandh observed in Mysore
Mysore, Apr 1 (UNI) The city observed a near total bandh today following a call by the congress to protest the arrest of former Deputy Chief Minister siddaramaiah at Jayapur last evening during a foundation laying ceremony.
Shops and other commercial establishments including hotels and theatres downed shutters.
The bandh was peaceful except for few cases of stone pelting on the city buses in the city.
The KSRTC buses suspended its outstation services. Passengers were stranded in the moffusil bus stands as the authorities announced the suspension of the service even after issuing of tickets.
City bus service were resumed but it also withdrew later.
The agitators also stopped the Mysore-Bangalore Tippu Express train for some time at the Railway station.
Protests were also reported from Mandya district.
The Mysore-Bangalore Highway was blocked for a while.
Last night three buses were torched and another three buses were damaged in stone pelting.
More than 130 Congress workers including Mr Siddaramaiah were arrested and released early today.
Meanwhile the situation was completley peaceful at Jayapura village where the prohibiton orders were in force for three days.
UNI
