Mysterious Smoke from the hills create panic in Bengal

Purulia, Apr 1 (UNI) Panic gripped the Rangamati village following thick black smokeoozing atop the Achuria hills bordering Bankura and Purulia districts of South Bengal.

Eye witnessess said they noticed thick black smoke billowing from the granite rocky hills since midnight last night.

Bankura District Magistrate Surendra Gupta said the Geological Survey of India had been informed about the smoke atop the hills but could not give any detail immediately.

Mr Gupta said there is no habitation within 400 mts radius from the hills.

Additional District Magistrate Arun Roy and Khatra Sub Division Officer Paresh Mahto had gone to the area to monitor the situation.

The DM said they were waiting for the GSI officials to ascertain the reason of the smoke.

The nearest village from the hills is Rangamati and the people there are experiencing a slight rise in temperature.
