Mysore, Apr 1 (UNI) A bandh called by District and City Congress unit to protest the arrest former Deputy Chief Minister Siddaramaiah along with supporters evoked a good response in the city and also in Mandya and Pandavapura today with all business establishments remaining closed.

Public transport was affected with KSRTC withdrawing its service following the bhandh in the city.

Mr Siddaramaiah and scores of his supporters also began a dharna in front of the Deputy Commissioner Office demanding immediate action against police officials who had arrested him last night.

He was detained yesterday after a trouble broke out between Congress and JD (S) workers at a foundation stone laying ceremoney for a hospital at Jayapuara village on the outskirts of the city.

Meanwhile, the district administration imposed ban orders on account of tension in the village for three days.

Mr Siddaramaiah and other Congress leaders including former Ministers accused the police of high handedness and a biased manner at the behest of the Janata Dal (S) leaders.

Mr Siddaramaiah and others who had been arrested by the police had been released early today.

However, Mr Siddaramaiah demanded from the police in writing about the reason for his arrest.

Meanwhile, the agitators also staged a protest in Railway station and stopped the Mysore-Bangalore Tippu Express for some time.
