Mamata demands immediate central intervention over Nandigram issue

Kolkata, Apr 1 (UNI) All India Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee today demanded immediate intervention of the UPA government at thecentre for revealing the truth behind the Nandigram police firing on March 14.

Speaking to mediapersons here this evening after news about the recovery of a partially burnt body of a child at Bhangaberia near Nandigram was confirmed, Ms Banerjee described the incident as inhuman and demanded immediate intervention of the Centre to reveal the truth.

Coming down heavily on the role of the West Bengal government in dealing with the issue and squarly blaming it for allegedly trying to hush up the apprehension of more casualty at Nandigram, the Trinamool Congress chief said that following the recovery of a child's body the Centre must no longer kept mum and must intervene without further delay.

Incidentally, tension gripped the entire Nandigram and Sonachura areas in East Midnapore district today following the recovery of the half burnt body of a child from under the culvert more than two weeks after the killing of 14, villagers and injury of many others at Nandigram on March 14 setting off nationwide criticism.
