Koirala resigns, reappointed PM of new interim govt

Kathmandu, Apr 1 (UNI) Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala today resigned from his post but was unanimously reappointed to head the new interim government, which includes the Maoists.

The new interim government, which includes five ministers from the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist), will conduct elections to a Constituent Assembly, tasked with mapping out the new political dispensation of the Himalayan country.

A proposal to reappoint Mr Koirala as Prime Minister was tabled by a prominent leader of the Nepali Congress at a meeting of parliament and which was unanimously endorsed by the House.

Took the oath of office at the Parliament Secretariat.

Mr Koirala is to form a new 26-member all party government later today before leaving for India to lead the Nepali delegation to the SAARC summit to be held in New Delhi.

He is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh tomorrow.
