'Holy Hair' of Prophet Mohammad kept for public veneration

Tiruchirapalli, Apr 1 (UNI) A large number of Muslims congregated at the Mohammadia Zamia Mosque to pay respects to the 1402-year-old 'Holy Hair' of Prophet Mohammed in the city, this evening.

The relic is being kept for public veneration once in a year on the occasion of 'Miladi Nabi' (Birthday of the Prophet). Later, it would be preserved in a special box inside the Mosque.

The Imam of the 255-year-old Mohammadia Jamia Mosque, Hazrat Syed Dasthagir Kathiri told UNI that ''the unique feature of the Holy Hair of the Prophet is that its shade will not fall on any object.'' The Holy Hairs, fixed in a piece of wax, were kept in a bowl containing water. The water was offered to the public as Holy Water.
