Gunfight erupts in north Kashmir

Baramulla, Apr 1 (UNI) A fierce gunfight has erupted between militants and the security forces in north Kashmir's Bandipora area this evening, official sources said.

They said security forces received a tip-off that militants were hiding in Haripora village of Chati-Bandipora this evening.

The security forces immediately cordoned off the area and conducted a search operation.

During the operation, militants fired upon the security forces from a particular house, which was effectively retaliated resulting a fierce encounter.

The encounter was still going on when reports last came in.
