Fire guts 27 houses

Malda, Apr 1 (UNI) Property worth about Rs 30 lakh was destroyed when a devastating fire reduced to ashes 27 houses at Bononodia village under Harishchandrapur police station today.

District Magistrate Chittaranjan Das said, ''The fire broke out at around 1700 hrs and one fire tender was pressed into service to doused the flame.'' In a separate incident late last night, another fire destroyed 14 houses at Mandagram under Kaliachak police station, injuring two minors and one woman. Two fire tenders fought for a few hours to control the blaze.

Meanwhile, the DM has asked the BDO to despatch immediate relief to both the areas.
