Srinagar, Apr 1 (UNI) Eid-i-Milad-un-Nabi, the birth anniversary of the Prophet Mohammad, was celebrated with with due solemnity and religious fervour across the Kashmir valley and Ladakh region today.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, his cabinet colleagues Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed and Hakim Mohamad Yaseen besides national Conference president Omar Abdullah paid obeisance at the shrine and also offered prayers.

The intermittent rains since this morning failed to dampen the spirits of hundreds and thousands of devotees who greeted each other on the occasion.

Prayers were offered in all mosques and shrines of the Kashmir valley and also in Kargil and Leh districts of the Ladakh region.

The Jammu and Kashmir government had made elaborate arrangements for the celebrations which would continue till Friday.

Meanwhile, police arrested Democratic Political Movement chairman Firdous Ahmed Shah and dozens of his supporters when they tried to take out a Milad procession here.

However, they were later released.
