BJP takes anti-Nandigram campaign to Kerala

Kolkata, Apr 1 (UNI) In an effort to bring the March 14 Nandigram massacre into the centrestage of national politics and generate strong public opinion against such incidents, the BJP has decided to organise a series of public meetings in different parts of the country, including the Left ruled state of Kerala, this week.

Keeping this in mind, BJP state General Secretary in West Bengal Rahul Sinha left for Thiruvanathapuram last night on a three-day tour of the state to hold a number of public rallies, street corner meetings and press conferences in different cities including Alleppy, Kannur and Ernakulam besides the capital city.

Speaking to UNI from Thiruvanthapuram, Mr Sinha said in all places he would bring to the peoples' notice ''the ground reality'' at Nandigram and the neighbouring Sonachura areas in East Midnapore district in the wake of the alleged strong-arm tactics of the ruling parties.

Claiming the local people were very eager to know what had forced the police to open fire at Nandigram in which 14 villagers were killed, Mr Sinha said armed with photographs and local newspaper reports on police brutality on the day, he would also bring to the notice of the people, particularly the intellectuals in Kerala, the series of alleged anti-people measures being taken by the West Bengal government in the name of industrial rejuvination programme.

Incidentally, this was perhaps the first coordinated effort by the opposition party to highlight the pan India dimension of Nandigram massacre as it could no longer be termed as a state related issue and people across the country should be informed about it.
