"Veyil", first Tamil film to be screened at Cannes

Chennai, Mar 31 (UNI) In a significant honour for Tamil film industry, popular by the name Kollywood and well known producer- director Shankar, the film ''Veyil'', produced by him, will be screened at the Cannes Festival to be held from May 16 to 27.

Directorate of Film Festivals, Government of India, Mr V B Pyarela informed this to Mr Shankar, who released a copy to the media here today.

This is for the first time that a Tamil commercial film is being screened at the prestigious Cannes festival.

''Veyil'' would be screened in ''Trsles Cinemas du Mond'' section on May 19, the third of the festival.

The film has won criticial acclaim as well as box-office success in Tamil Nadu, it may be recalled.

Mr Shankar said the selection of ''Veyil'' was a significant honour for Tamil cinema.
