TDP wants Governor to reconsider MLC nomination list

Hyderabad, Mar 31 (UNI) The main opposition Telugu Desam Party(TDP) today demanded that Governor Rameshwar Thakur ask the state cabinet to reconsider the names finalised for nomination to the Legislative Council.

The Congress Government had already brought ''disrepute'' to the high office of Governor in the grant of pardon to Congress leader Gouru Venkata Reddy, a convict serving life sentence in a murder case, leading to ''indictment'' by the Supreme Court, party legislator D Narendrakumar told a press conference at the TDP Legislature party office.

Except for Farm Scientist M V Rao, all others recommended by the state cabinet for nomination were active Congress party leaders, he claimed, urging the Governor not to give scope for turning the House of elders into a ''rehabilitation centre'' for Congressmen defeated in the assembly elections.

Referring to the just-concluded budget session, he said the Government had failed to facilitate discussion on burning public issues, by resorting to adjournment of the House and ensuring passage of the appropriation Bills without discussion and guillotining of demands for various departments.
