Southern Railway revises fare

Chennai, Mar 31 (UNI) As announced in the Railway Budget for 2008-2009, the Southern Railway has decided to reduce the fares for certain classes, under the Dynamic Pricing Policy.

An official release here today said in second class (non-suburban), a reduction of one rupee per passenger in all passenger and Mail/Express trains other than super fast trains has been announced. However, there would be a reduction of Rs three in non-subrban section.

The revision in fares will come into effect for journeys commencing on and after April 1. However, there will be no change in second class fares applicable in suburban section.

In first AC and second AC, there would be a fare reduction ranging between two per cent and eight per cent depending upon 'Class and Period (Lean/Peak) of travel'.

The first AC fares and AC two-tier for peak period (April 16 to July 14 and September 16 to 14 January) would be reduced to three per cent and two per cent respectively.

While the first AC fares and AC two-tire for lean period (January 15 to April 15 and July 15 to September 15) will be reduced to six per cent and four per cent respectively.

The reduction for popular trains throughout the year for AC fares and AC two-tire would be reduced to three per cent and two per cent respectively.

However, there would be no change in first class fares and Garib Rath Express train fares. The superfast supplementary charges for second class would be reduced by 20 per cent from Rs 10 to Rs eight per ticket.

Refund of difference in fares in cases of tickets already issued at pre-revised rates would be done at any PRS location across the counter, prior to commencement of journey or upto three days after completion of journey.

Thereafter, passengers can claim the difference in fare by sending the original ticket to Chief Commercial Manager (refunds) of Zonal Railway where the journey originated or terminated.

Original advance booking accomodation status will be maintained for the refunds allowed before the commencement of journey at no extra cost, the release added.
