Soldier killed in Kashmir encounter

Baramulla, Mar 31 (UNI) A soldier was killed in a fierce encounter in north Kashmir this evening, official sources said.

They said troops launched a search operation at Sheikhpora in this district following a tip off that militants were hiding there.

When the area was being sealed, militants opened fire. The fire was returned and in the ensuing encounter, a soldier was killed.

Reinforcements were rushed to the area from nearby camps.

The operation was on when reports last came in.
