New Delhi, Mar 31 (UNI) President APJ Abdul Kalam, Vice President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh have greeted the people on the occasion of Milad-un-Nabi, the day Prophet Mohammed made his descent on earth.

''On the auspicious occasion of the birthday of Prophet Hazrat Mohammad Saheb, I extend my greetings to all my people in India and abroad,'' said President Kalam in his message.

Recalling a 'Hadeed' of the Prophet, Dr Kalam said, ''One's faith is not complete until he enjoys three attributes: charity, justice for all and seeking peace for all.'' ''May this message of the Holy Prophet inspire us in our daily lives and to spread the message of universal brotherhood, compassion, tolerance and service to humanity,'' the President said.

In his message of good wishes, Mr Shekhawat said the Prophet showed to the mankind the path of righteousness, compassion, charity and brotherhood. ''Let his message provide us spiritual happiness, peace and virtue and inspire us to work for the welfare of the poor and the downtrodden.'' The Vice President expressed the hope that the festive occasion would unite the people in a common brotherhood of humanity and fill their lives with peace and prosperity.

In a separate message, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said the teachings of the Holy Prophet showed people ''the path to a world free from the scourges of discrimination and hatred wherein people prosper together''.

The ''profound teachings'' of the Prophet guided us to an egalitarian and harmonious society, said the Prime Minister.
