PDP's press conference on troops withdrawal hit traffic in Srinagar
Srinagar, Mar 31 (UNI) Traffic movement on busy Residency Road near here was suspended today to prevent any militant attack during the press conference of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.
Former chief minister, who has been asking for troops withdrawal and repeal of Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA), had called a press conference at PDP central office at Emporium Road to announce Centre's response to the PDP demands.
The entire road from Polo view to Radio Kashmir crossing, which otherwise remain busy, was closed for traffic hours before the scheduled press conference.
Police vehicles were parked on the middle of the roads and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and police personnel holding automatic weapons were guarding the area.
A woman, driving maruti car was seen pleading to a police personnel to allow her to go nearby hotel for collecting some eatables. We have orders not to allow anybody beyond Police view crossing, the police official said and advised her to come after the PDP function was over.
People protested as they were directed to take longer routes to reach their destinations. It is unfortunate that a party which is demanding troops withdrawal from the Kashmir are putting people to inconvenience, said the agitated people.
