MUDA to allot 30,000 sites in a year

Mysore, Mar 31 (UNI) The Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) is all set to allot 30,000 sites within a year to clear the waiting list of nearly one lakh aspirants.

This was announced in the MUDA budget for the year 2007-08, presented by its Commissioner H S Ashokananda here. The budget showed a surplus of Rs 1.08 crore with an expected revenue of Rs 275.45 crore and a provision for expenditure of Rs 274.37 crore.

MUDA had planned to allot a total of 50,000 sites within two years and it had already formed 4,000 sites in Lalbahadur Nagar. The Commissioner said notification for acquisition of 2,600 acres of land had been issued. Three new layouts -- Rabhindranath Nagara, Lalithadri Nagar and Vidyanagar -- at a cost of Rs 49.68 crore would be developed shortly. Besides, there was a proposal to implement group housing schemes in old and new layouts with public-private participation.

He said that in future, MUDA would allot 7200 sqft per acre of land to the land losers instead of cash compensation.

As per the Government instructions, MUDA earmarked Rs three crore to construct Nalvadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar Bhavan, who started the then Mysore Trust Board to form layouts in the beginning of the 19th century in the city.

The budget meeting was presided over by MUDA Chairman and Deputy Commissioner S Selva Kumar.
