Mahavir Jayanti celebrated with religious fervour

Chandigarh, Mar 31 (UNI) Mahavir Jayanti, the birthday of Lord Mahavira, was celebrated with religious fervour and gaiety in Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh Union Territory today.

Colourful processions, public meetings and religious discourses marked the birth anniversary celebrations of Lord Mahavira in the region.

Speakers at various functions, organised at several places in the region eulogised the message of non-violence preached by Lord Mahavira, founder of Jainism, and said it was more relevant to the present age.

A colourful procession was also +taken out in the Union Terriory which passed through various sectors before culminating at Parsuram Bhavan at sector 37.
