Jamshedpur, Mar 31 (UNI) The process of land acquisition for setting up plants by major industrial houses in Jharkhand was halted in the absence of the state government's Rehabilitation and Resettlement (R&R) policy, scheduled to be framed by early next month.

Industries like Jindal Steel and Power Ltd (JSPL), Tata Motors Ltd, Tata Power, Bhusan Power and Steel Ltd (BPSL) and Conti Steel had applied for land to the tune of over 10,000 acre in the East Singhbhum district here.

District Deputy Commissioner N M Kulkarni said the district administration had already sent the proposals received from the industrial houses regarding land acquisition to the government but it would be implemented only after constitution of the new R&R policy and detailed guidelines from the state government.

About allotment of vacant land of Hindustan Copper Ltd (HCL) at Ghatshila, which was handed over to the government, Mr Kulkarni said four bidders, including Tata Power, had sought the government approval for acquistion of the land but the proposal was kept pending with the government.
