New Delhi, Mar 31 (UNI) Bharatiya Janshakti Party leader and former Delhi Chief Minister Madan Lal Khurana today renewed the demand for full statehood for the capital saying its otherwise its problems will not be resolved.

Talking to newspersons here Mr Khurana regretted the resumption of court-mandated demolition drive against unauthorised construction and sealing of shops in some residential areas.

He ridiculed the UPA Government at the centre for setting up committees to study various issues including that of implementing the Delhi Master Plan 2021, which also talked of regularisation and phased development of unauthorised colonies. He said these committees be immediately disbanded as their recommendations can never be implemented.

He cited the recommendations of the Vijay Kumar Malhotra committee and later the Tajinder Khanna Committee. While BJP did not accept the recommendations of Malhotra Committee during its term in the Centre as well as in the state. Had these been accepted the situation of sealing and desealing would not have arisen, he asserted.

Similarly, the Congress was also not sincere to redress the grievances of the people of this metropolis. The Urban Development Minister had promised him only a fort night ago that there would be no sealing, but it had been resumed now, he said.

The expelled BJP leader who had been a Union Minister in the Vajpayee Government and also had a stint as Governor of Rajasthan, said the people of Delhi now do not trust the BJP and Congress.

Mr Khurana said he had left the gubernatorial post within eight months to serve the people of Delhi and resolved to fight for their cause till his last breath.

He claimed that candidates of his parties were being terrorised he said one candidate who had received a threatening call on phone by someone yesterday asking him to withdraw from the contest, has already lodged a complaint with the police.
