JK BJP terms as ''dangerous'' setting up of committees for troop c

Jammu, Mar 31 (UNI) The state BJP today accused the Centre of ''politicising'' the institution of the Army by setting up committees to look into the ''pernicious'' demands of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the partner of the ruling coalition in Jammu and Kashmir, over demilitarisation.

Addressing a press conference, BJP spokesperson Hari Om said the setting up of a high-powered committee headed by Defence Minister A K Antony for ''relocation and reconfiguration'' of security forces in the state ''is a dangerous move''.

''Prime Minister Manmohan Singh surrendered before PDP Patron Mufti Mohammed Sayeed by appointing the three committees to look into the issues of troop relocation and review of anti-terror laws,'' Prof Om said.

''The Congress-led UPA government at the Centre can do anything to save its government in Jammu and Kashmir, '' Prof Om said and alleged thet the terms of reference of the committees ''show the extent to which the Centre can go in its desperate bid to appease the separatists and to keep its government intact in JK.'' ''There is not a single instance anywhere in the world which indicates that any sovereign and Independent country has ever politicised the institution of Army and endangered the national security for petty political considerations,'' he said.

However, this has happened in this country and ''there is no doubt that the nation will have to pay a very heavy price for this act of political debauchery'', Mr Om said.
