IIM-A hikes fees for post graduate programmes

Ahmedabad, Mar 31 (UNI) The Indian Institute of Management-Ahmedabad (IIMA) has decided to increase its tuition fees upto Rs two lakh from Rs 1.77 lakh for its flagship post graduate programme in management for the coming academic session.

The fee structure for the one year post graduate programme for executives (PGPX) was also hiked to Rs 14 lakhs from the present Rs ten lakh.

Addressing reporters here today after the board of directors' meeting, IIM-A's newly appointed Chairman Dr Vijaypat Singhania said that the IIM-A board had approved to hike the tuition fees by Rs 23,000. Though the annual cost of the programme per student works out to an average of Rs 4 lakh, the recovery will be only 50 per cent from the fees, he said.

The PGPX programme which started in 2006 with a fee structure of Rs eight lakh, saw a hike in fees to Rs ten lakh this year, he said.

Regarding the faculty compensation issue, IIM-A Director Dr Bakul H Dholakia said that the board was awaiting the approval from the Human Resource Development Ministry.

Out of the six IIM's in the country, IIM-Bangalore raised its fee for the programme in management by Rs 75,000 to Rs 2.5 lakh, while IIM-Indore hiked the fee from Rs 1.50 lakh to Rs 1.90 lakh with an increase of Rs 40,000.
