General Sinha said in this age of technological revolution, knowledge of mathematics is immensely important and hoped that academicians will pay due attention to it. He called for taking full advantage of this basic knowledge, roots of which are in the genes of Indians.

Refering to the introduction of zero by Aryabhat and great contribution of Ramanju in the field of mathematics, he said ''mathematics is in the genes of Indians.'' Mr Sinha, in a lighter vein, said he himself was not happy with mathematics in school days and it was a great relief to say goodbye to the subject at graduation level, as he pursued arts.
