Chennai, Mar 31 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Governor Surjit Singh Barnala, Chief Minister M Karunanidhi and AIADMK General Secretary J Jayalalithaa today greeted Muslims on the eve of Meelad-Un-Nabi.

In a message here, Mr Barnala conveyed his greetings and good wishes to Muslims in Tamil Nadu on the occasion of Meelad-Un-Nabi, the birthday of Prophet Mohammed.

''Let us reaffirm our faith in the preachings of Prophet Mohammed and pledge to promote universal brotherhood, peace and mutual affinity'', he said.

Greeting the Muslim brethren on the occasion, Mr Karunanidhi recalled that his government, after assuming power in 2006, revived government holiday for Meelad-Un-Nabi, earlier scrapped by the previous AIADMK regime.

The government had also been impressing upon the Centre to provide separate quota for Muslims, he said and added that the ruling DMK, which had fulfilled a majority of its poll promises, proudly recalled Prophet Mohammed's preaching ''fulfil thy promise.

As thy will be questioned about it.'' AIADMK supremo and leader of the opposition J Jayalalithaa said in her message that the preachings of Prophet Mohammed on peace, love and equality were still relevant to human life.

''In the face of threats from terrorism and extremism, it is my wish that everyone follows the preachings of Prophet Mohammed,'' she said and extended her greetings to Muslims on the occasion.
