Court grants interim bail to tainted BDOs
Shillong, Mar 31(UNI) The Shillong bench of Gauhati High Court has granted interim bail to two Block Development Officers(BDOs) allegedly involved in misappropriation of public funds under the Rural Housing and Habitat Development programme.
On Thursday, the Court gave an interim bail to tainted BDOs-John Lakiang and Mathias D Sangma, official sources said here today. Both the BDOs of Dadenggre Block, along with another Selsella Block BDO Dr A Roy, had been absconding after the government lodged an FIR against them for their alleged involvement in the crime.
All the three have allegedly siphoned Rs 50 lakh by transfering the amount to Gambil Ading Women's Organisation, an NGO headed by former state minister in-charge of Community and Rural Development Beckstar K Sangma.
Earlier, the Gauhati High Court has directed the Meghalaya government to register a case against the BDOs allegedly involved in misappropriation of public funds.
Meanwhile, the state government would move a petition in the Court against the interim bail granted by the Court.
