Work for lift irrigation incomplete due to Bangladesh objection

Agartala, Mar 30 (UNI) A number of lift irrigation projects in Tripura's South district remained incomplete following objection by Bangladesh.

State Water Resource Minister Badal Chowdhury today said works of at least 14 lift irrigation projects remained incomplete and the breach in the embankment of the river Feni, close to the bordermost sub-divisional town of Sabroom, could not be contained following the obstruction.

The state government has held several rounds of talks with the Union Government and requested the latter to take up the matter with the neighbouring country, but nothing has so far been done, the Minister said in the state Assembly in reply to a public interest question by CPI(M) MLA Gour Kanti Goswami.
