TN declares holiday due to tomorrow bandh

Chennai, Mar 30 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu government today declared a holiday tomorrow under the Negotiable Instruments Act in view of the state-wide dawn-to-dusk bandh in protest against the Supreme Court stay on reservation for OBCs in higher educational institutions.

An official release here said all state government offices, public undertakings, including State Transport Corporations and other industrial establishments would have a public holiday tomorrow.

However, essential services like telephone, telecommunication, water supply, milk distribution, power supply, fire services, newspapers, hospitals, treasuries and scheduled banks would be exempted from the bandh.

Buses and trains would not run during the bandh period from 0600 hrs to 1800 hrs and all buses departing today would be terminated before 0500 hrs tomorrow at convenient destinations.

The government had also advised airlines and railways to reschedule services to ensure that there was no movement anywhere in the State during the bandh period.

The government also ordered closure of all liquor shops, explosive godowns and cinema halls due to the bandh.

The release said the transport corporations would operate special buses after the bandh period.
