Three more carcasses of lions found in Gir
Junagadh, Mar 30 (UNI) Three carcasses of Asiatic lions were found today from the Gir wildlife sanctuary.
Carcasses of two full grown male lions and one cub were spotted by villagers at a place called Juna Chela Nes near Popatadi village of Babaria range in the sanctuary, Gir Nature Youth Club president Amit Jethwa here said.
''The dead bodies of lions were in mutilated condition with their claws, skins and bones taken out by the poachers,'' Mr Jethwa told UNI.
While there was no official statement issued by the forest department in this regard, sources in the department said the officials immediately went to the site after the carcasses were found and the investigation was underway.
This is the second incident of lion poaching in the Gir wildlife sanctuary this month. Earlier on fifth March, three bodies of dead lions were found from the sanctuary.
