Subramanya-Mangalore passenger train blocked

Mangalore, Mar 30 (UNI) About 100 members of the Samajwadi Party (SP), Cauvery Horatta Samiti and Rajya Raitha Sangha today stopped the Subramanya-Mangalore passenger train for about ten minutes at Kankanady railway station to press their demands.

SP district unit Secretary S P Chengappa, addressing the agitators, demanded Railway Minister Lalu Prasad that the much-delayed Bangalore-Mangalore passenger train service be commenced soon. He demanded that the railway station at Kankanady, lacking several facilities, be upgraded with all modern facilities to meet the requirements of the passengers.

He sought the creation of a separate division for Mangalore railways, bifurcating it from the Palghat division. An overbridge should be built at Padil railway gate to avert recurring accidents, he added.

A memorandum was submitted to the Railway Minister through the Station Master of Kankanady railway station.

Earlier, the agitators, who declined to allow the train to move, were forcibly removed by the police.
