Study on Kodava kings welcomed
Madikeri, Karnataka, Mar 30 (UNI) General B C Nanda and Air Marshal K C Cariappa have welcomed the Government's move to study the antecedents of kings who ruled this picturesque hilly district in Karnataka.
They regretted the statements by a section of Kodavas here, opposing the move.
Gen Nanda said the Lingayat kings who ruled Kodagu for a long time were most generous. They had given Jamma lands to people to make a living. People were taxed very less during their regime, unlike Moghul kings who used to swindle money. There was never a case of communal disharmony during their rule.
Air Marshal Cariappa said it was a welcome sign that a study forum had been created by the Government. He observed that communal disharmony would not be created by these kind of studies, as projected by a section of people.
