Senior cop arrested in alleged rape case

Itanagar, Mar 30 (UNI) A Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) was arrested yesterday in an alleged sexual harassment case, police said today.

Police said SSP Subhas Chandra Adhikari posted at the city fire brigade had allegedly sexually harassed his maid for 15 days when his family was out of station.

Adhikari, who is to retire next year, had lodged a complaint with the local police station that his maid had either ran away or was kidnapped.

Accordingly, police launched a search operation but she could not be traced. After a detailed inquiry, police formally registered a missing case on March 22.

However, on March 26 the missing girl appeared before the police and lodged a complaint against the SSP. In her statement, she alleged that she had been locked up in his government quarter for 15 days and criminally assaulted, police said.

After a detailed medical examination of the accused and the victim, the city police registered a case against the officer on charges of rape and outraging modesty of a woman.
