RB Chief Engineer arrested for graft in Kashmir

Srinagar, Mar 30 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir Vigilance Organisation today achieved a big success in its drive against corrupt officials when it caught red handed a Chief Engineer while accepting bribe from a contractor for allotment of work worth Rs 23 lakh.

Roads and Buildings Chief Engineer Nazir Ahmad Shah had demanded Rs 50,000 from Altaf Hussain Teli, a resident of Kulangam, Handwara in Kupwara district, for allotment of a contract worth Rs 23 lakh.

Teli had agreed to pay Rs 30,000 as the first installment and the remaining amount after the allotment of the contract.

In the meantime, he lodged a complaint with the Vigilance Organisation, alleging that the Chief Engineer was demanding Rs 50,000 as bribe from him for the allotment of work.

The vigilance sleuths laid a trap and caught red handed the Chief Engineer while he was accepting bribe of Rs 30,000 as the first installment of the demanded money.

The Chief Engineer has been arrested and a case registered against him.
