Opposition forces AP House adjournment

Hyderabad, Mar 30: The Andhra Pradesh Assembly was adjourned today for sometime as the opposition stalled the proceedings over the OBC Quota issue.

The trouble started as soon as the Speaker K R Suresh Reddy disallowed the adjournment motions given notice of by the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and the Janata Party Member K Ramulu on the reservation for Other Backward Classes(OBCs) stayed by the Supreme Court.

The opposition party members were on their feet pressing for an immediate discussion on the quota issue which affected the future of large number of OBC students.

Intervening Legislative Affairs Minister K Rosaiah said the State Government would exert pressure on the Union Government for continuation of reservation for OBCs. The State Government would too all needful on its part for continuing reservation for OBCs. As Mr Rosaiah felt that there was no need for passing a resolution on the issue as the Apex Court had only passed an interim order and the Centre was taking all legal steps, the TDP members stormed the Well of the House with placards and raised slogans against the Government.

The Speaker repeatedly appealed the members to resume their seats and take up the issue during the discussion on appropriation bill.

With no restoration of order in the House the Speaker announced adjournment of the House for fifteen minutes.

Earlier, the Speaker also disallowed the adjournment motions given notice of by the TRS and AIMIM on Krishna waters to Hyderabad, CPI on assigned land issue, CPI(M) on lathicharge on Gramsevaks and the BJP on cut in kerosene quota by the Centre.
