MP Assly's legislative tradition glorious: Chouhan

Bhopal, Mar 30 (UNI) Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly Jamuna Devi today praised Speaker Ishwardas Rohani for upholding the glorious legislative tradition.

Speaking on the occasion of adjournment of the budget session of the assembly, Mr Chouhan termed the session as historic as significant decisions related to women -- including providing 50 per cent reservation to women in civic bodies and panchayats and gender budgeting -- were taken.

Pointing out that all members played an important role in enhancing the glory of the House, he said the Speaker discharged his role without bias. On several occasions, he directed ministers to take steps on public welfare related matters besides running the House skillfully during stressed moments.

The Chief Minister urged the Leader of the Opposition and other members to pledge that no one would comment when the President, the Vice-President or the Governor was addressing the House.

Ms Devi described the budget session as historic for taking the decision to provide 50 per cent reservation to women in civic bodies and panchayats. Praising the Speaker, she said he provided opportunity to everyone to express his point of view.

She felt that a provision for overall security of women was also required.

Mr Vanshmani Verma (SP) and lone CPI(M) member Ramlakhan Sharma also lauded the Speaker for providing adequate opportunity to express their opinion despite less time. Members expressed happiness that discussion of complex issues took place in a light and friendly atmosphere.

Mr Verma also praised Deputy Speaker Hazarilal Raghuvanshi saying he was an elderly member but possessed youthful enthusiasm. He added that no one in the Vidhan Sabha was old.
