Mizoram opposition demands ban on DDT
Aizawl, Mar 30 (UNI) Opposition parties in Mizoram demanded a ban on the use of Dichloro-diphenyl-trichloroethan (DDT) as it has been banned in some countries including US.
Health Minister R Tlanghmingthanga has assured the state assembly today that the DDT has been used for combating malaria and it was not harmful to human beings adding ''though DDT is poisonous but the solution was used for fighting mosquitoes in diluted form''.
Opposition MLAs pointed out that the farmers easily get DDT from Health department and use it for their crops. The opposition has urged the government to ban its use which has been scientifically proved as one of the main cause of cancer.
In fact, the Health department has been trying to persue people to use DDT in their houses as part of the anti-malaria campaign.
