Nagpur, Mar 30 (UNI) The Nagpur police have registered an offence of dacoity and criminal conspiracy against ICICI Bank Chairman-cum- Managing Director (CMD) K V Kamath and seven others in connection with the alleged forcible seizure of a car financed by the bank.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Suresh Mekala said the offence had been registered yesterday at Sitabuldi police station under sections 395, 120 (B), 506 (B) and 294 as per the orders of the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) here on a complaint from the borrower, Pravin Deshmukh.

Besides Kamath, those booked by the police include Pappu Chandrashekhar, Ajay Tiwari, Praveen Rajhans, Kiran Dixit, Vikrant Meghi, Nehal Desai and Maninder Juneja.

According to Mr Deshmukh's complaint, he had bought a car with a loan from the bank. Earlier this month, the accused, posing as officials of ICICI Bank, seized his vehicle after he defaulted on two monthly repayment instalments. He offered to clear all the dues in March, but the bank refused the offer, the complainant alleged.

There was Rs 25,000 in cash inside the car when it was taken away, he claimed, alleging that the bank then sold the car to someone else.

Mr Deshmukh said the police refused to register his complaint against the bank. He then moved the court of JMFC here seeking directives to the police to register his complaint. The court passed an order on March 26 directing the police to take action.

Mr Mekala said the police would conduct an investigation and submit a report to the court of the JMFC.
