HRD panel for mainstreaming madarsa education
New Delhi, Mar 30 (UNI) A committee of the Human Resource Development Ministry on modernisation of madarsas has recommended linking these institutions to mainstream education and introduction of vocational courses in their curricula.
The sub-committee today submitted its interim report to HRD Minister Arjun Singh. The report will be taken up for discussion in the next week of April, sources in the HRD Ministry told UNI.
They said the committee recommended that madarsa education at the primary and secondary level should be linked to the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, the country's most ambitious programme for universalisation of elementary education.
It also wanted linkages with the National Institute of Open Schooling and ITIs.
The panel has recommended introduction of modern subjects like science and maths in madarsas.
