Jammu, Mar 30 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Governor Lt Gen S K Sinha (retd) and Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad today greeted people on the eve of Mahavir Jayanti.

In his message, the Governor described Lord Mahavir as an ''apostle of peace'', who preached non-violence. ''His great philosophy of peace, non-violence and brotherhood has great relevance when the world is faced with the challenge of terrorism and religious intolerance,'' Lt Gen Sinha said.

''The best way to celebrate such occasions is to pledge to strengthen the bonds of brotherhood and love among all mankind,'' he added.

Mr Azad said the composite culture, tolerance, amity between believers of various faiths, secular fabric and temperament of Jammu and Kashmir state reflected the preaching and teachings of great saints, gurus and revered religious leaders like Lord Mahavir.

Non-violence and amity taught and preached by Lord Mahavir is relevant forever and the best way to propagate love, brotherhood and peace, the Chief Minister said.
