Fasting wives of missing ULFA leaders arrested in Asom
Guwahati, Mar 30 (UNI) Fasting wives of five missing ULFA leaders were arrested today on charges of attempt to commit suicide and were later admitted to hospital.
The five women had been on fast unto death since March 21 demanding information about the whereabouts of their husbands who went untraced following their arrest in the wake of anti-ULFA operation by Royal Bhutan Army in December, 2003.
Meanwhile, the People's Committee for Peace in Assam (PCPIA) condemned the police action to arrest the fasting wives of missing ULFA leaders.
In a statement, PCPIA chief coordinator Lachit Bardoloi termed the police action as a part of undemocratic design to gag the agitation demanding whereabouts of the missing ULFA leaders - Ashanta Baghphukan, Ponaram Dihingia alias Prakash Gogoi, Naba Changmai alias Muhi Dihingia, Bening Rabha and Nilu Chakrabarty.
