Dyers Assoc announces indefinite strike from Apr 9

The
Dyers
Association
of
Tirupur
today
announced
that
Dyeing
and
Bleaching
units
would
go
on
an
indefinite
strike
from
April
9,
as
they
were
unable
to
repay
the
penalty
imposed
by
the
Madras
High
Court
due
to
lack
of
work
from
garment
manufacturers
to
meet
their
expenses.
Talking
to
UNI
here,
the
Association
General
Secretary
S
Samiappan
said
the
494
units
in
Karur
have
also
decided
to
stop
their
work
from
April
2.
The
Court
had
ordered
them
to
pay
fine
of
six
paise
per
litre
of
effluent
discharged
from
January
1
to
March
31,
eight
paise
from
April
one
to
May
31
and
ten
paise
from
June
1
to
July
31.
The
units
had
paid
around
Rs
five
crore
as
fine
in
February
last.
