Consumer price index increases by one point

Shimla, Mar 30 (UNI) All India Consumer Price Index number for Industrial Workers (CPI-IW), on base 2001=100, increased by one point in February to stand at 128, sources from labour bureau today said.

The index recorded an increase of four points each in Mariani Jorhat and Labac-Silcher centres, three points each in Coimbatore and Lucknow centres, two points in seven centres and by one point in ten centres, while remaining stationary in 35 centres during the month.

The increase of four points in Mariani-Jorhat centre was due to the rise in the prices of rice, wheat atta, mustard oil, fish fresh, onion, vegetable and fruit items, pan leaves and country liquor, while the increase of four points in Labac-Silcher centre was due to the rise in prices of rice, masur dal, mustard oil, dry chillies, onion, vegetable and fruit items.

On the other hand, the fall of two points in Quilon centre was due to the decrease in the prices of fish fresh, vegetable and fruit items, the sources said.

The index at Bangalore stood at 134 points, followed by 131 at Mumbai, 126 each at Ahmedabad and Kolkata, 125 at Delhi and 122 at Chennai, the sources added.
