Bus fare reduced in Orissa

Bhubaneswar, Mar 30 (UNI) Orissa Transport Minister Jayanarayan Mishra today announced in the Assembly the state government's decision to lower the bus fare following reduced prices of petrol and diesel.

Making a statement in the House, Mr Mishra said the last bus fare was hiked in August 2006 but with the reduction of prices in petrol and diesel, the government had requested the transport commissioner to submit a report on the bus fare keeping in mind the prices of petroleum products.

He said the technical committee under the Transport Commissioner was asked to submit a report and the Chief Minister had directed to reduce the bus fare on the basis of recommendation of the Committee's report.

Mr Mishra said it was decided to reduce one paisa per km in the existing bus fare for passenger, express and deluxe bus and two paisa per km for the deluxe (air-conditioned) bus.

Similarly, the fare of the town bus had also been reduced by ten paisa within the radius of 15 kms and 20 paisa beyond 15kms, the Transport Minister said and announced that soon a notification would be issued on the reduction of the fare.
