Shillong, Mar 30 (UNI) The BJP has sought Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's intervention into the spiralling price rise of essential commodities.

In a memorandum to the prime minister, the BJP's Umroi Mandal Block said the rapid and successive rise in prices of essential commodities had made the life of the common man difficult.

''It has become impossible for poor daily wage earners to provide two square meals to his family and children. The prices of essentials have gone up by 100 per cent in the last three years,'' it said.

''The expectation the common man had from the United Progressive Alliance has been shattered. The prices of essential commodities have sharply risen since the UPA came to power less than three years ago,'' the memorandum said.

It is not essential commodities which have become dearer. Even medicines are becoming unaffordable for the masses, it said.

''Petrol, diesel, kerosene and cooking gas have become expensive and are beyond the reach of the poor. This has happened despite the fall in international price of oil from to per barrel,'' the memorandum pointed out.

''As the Prime Minister and head of the government the problems of the Aam Aadmi (common man) also concern you, and so, you may kindly look into the matter and provide relief to the people,'' the memorandum further urged.

Meanwhile, in spite of hurdles created by the district administration of Ri Bhoi and police, BJP mandal workers submitted the memorandum to the DC Ri-Bhoi District. BJP's Umroi BJP Block president Amol Nongrang said the people have come to know the ''hypocritical'' nature of the UPA government at the Center and the MDA dispensation in the state.
