Backlog issue rocks the council

Mumbai, Mar 30 (UNI) The issues, of irrigation backlog of Vidarbha, Marathwada and rest of Maharashtra as well as not implementing the guidelines by the Governor on allotment of funds for these regions, rocked the upper house leading to four adjournments today.

However, later the issue was settled after Chairman Shivajirao Deshmukh asked the government to table the details and cancel the prior order of March 13, which contradicted the orders of the Governor and the law passed by both the houses of the legislature on the issue of irrigation. He asked the government to table the details within three to four days.

The issue was raised by B T Desmukh (Ind) under rule 93 after question hour, who said that the government was not following the directives given by the Governor on this issue and demanded that the government should make a statement on this issue.

BJP leader Nitin Gadkari said the rights of giving administrative approval for the projects are given to the statutory developments boards but the finance department took it with them.

The issue created tension in the house and the house was adjourned for four times.

Later Mr Deshmukh said that after a meeting with the opposition leaders and ministers, it was decided to rectify the earlier order which was contradicting the directives of the Governor and the government will table the same before the house.
