Vote-on-account passed in Pondy Assembly

Puducherry,Mar 29 (UNI) The Legislative Assembly today passed a vote- on-account for Rs 848.42 crore for the first four months of the next financial year.

The motion for the vote-on-account, moved by Chief Minister N Rangasamy, was passed by a voice vote.

The House also passed supplementary demands for grants for various departments to the tune of Rs 262 crore by voice vote.

Earlier, the House witnessed noisy scenes when Mr A Anabazhagan (AIADMK) sought to clarify how the additional expenditure was incurred and demanded time for discussing the issue.

However, Speaker R Radhakrishnan intervened and said the members could only express views and cannot seek time for discussions.

Mr Radhakrishnan then invited Mr R Siva (DMK) to speak which provoked Mr Anbazhagan to move into the well of the House and argue with the Speaker.

Mr Radhakrishnan and the Chief Minister urged the member to resume his seat saying he would be allowed to speak later following which the AIADMK MLA took his seat.

However, the Speaker said the business of the House was already discussed at the business advisory committee of which Mr Anbazhagan was also a member. He did not raise any objection then but was creating problems now.

Mr Anbazhagan immediately rose to counter the statement and said the matter was not discussed in the committee to which the Speaker asked whether he had signed the paper without reading it.

This provoked Mr Anbazhagan to challenge the speaker whether he could show his (Mr Anbazhagan) signature.
