Three killed in truck-van collision

Sivaganga, Tamil Nadu, Mar 29 (UNI) Three people, including a father and son, were killed on the spot and 13 others injured when a sand-laden truck collided with a mini-van at Thirupuvanam town in this district today.

Police here said the victims, all petty traders of three families, were proceeding in the mini-van from Madurai to attend a temple festival at Thayamangalam near Ilayankudi, when the oncoming trurk collided with it.

The ten-day 'Mariamman' festival attracts people from far and wide and the 16-member group had all the necessary material to pitch in their shops there , in the vehicle.

The deceased were identified as Ganesan (55), his son Gunasekaran (32) and Guna 25).

The injured, including the van driver, were under-going treated at the Government Hospital here.

The truck driver, P Pandi of Silaiman in Madurai, was arrested and a case registered against him, police added.
