Six-week extension for minorities commission: Cabinet
New Delhi, Mar 29 (UNI) The government today extended by six weeks, till May 15, the term of the National Commission for Religious and Linguistic Minorities.
The extension, approved at a Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, would provide an opportunity to the commission to ''interact effectively and meaningfully'' and prepare a ''pragmatic and practical report.'' Making the announcement, Information and Broadcasting Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi told reporters that the term of the commission was expiring on March 31.
Replying to queries, he said the commission was in the final stages of preparing its report and as such a longer extension was not required.
